Privacy Policy
Effective 3 November 2026
JigSpot is a fishing app for anglers in the Philippines. This policy explains what we collect when you use the JigSpot app and website, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Questions: jigspot@diom.dev.
The short version
- We collect what the app needs to work: your account, the spots you save, a summary of each trip, and your location while you use map features.
- Trip routes and trip photos stay on your phone. Each finished trip's summary and its strikes and catches are saved to your account.
- Your friends see only what you choose to share with them.
- No ads, and we don't sell your data. We collect crash reports to fix bugs, and usage data only if you agree to it.
- You can delete your account and its data from the app at any time.
What we collect
- Account: your name, email address, password if you set one (stored only as a salted hash), profile photo, and the province, region and country you choose. You sign in with Google or with your email address and password. When you continue with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile photo with us; we never see your Google password.
- Saved spots: spots and zones you save and sync, including their location, name, type, notes, rating, depth, zone score, catch species and weight, and the catch photo you attach.
- Trips: when you finish a trip and the app is online and signed in, it saves a summary of the trip to your account: its name, start and end times and positions, distance, duration, moving time, and number of strikes and catches. Each strike and catch is saved with its location, time, depth and the spot it was saved as, plus the conditions at that moment: time into the trip and distance from its start, drift speed and direction, chart depth, your target depth range, nearby structure, wind, waves and tide, and for a fight its duration and outcome. The trip's GPS route and trip photos are not uploaded.
- Precise location: used on your phone to show your position, record trips, navigate and mark spots — including in the background while Follow, Jig Mode, navigation or live broadcast is on (the app shows a notification while this is running). Your location is sent to our servers when you save a spot, when a finished trip's summary and its strikes and catches are saved, when you share your live position, or when you request weather.
- Live broadcast: while you broadcast, your current position is sent to our servers and shown to the friends you picked. It stops when you end the broadcast or it expires.
- Friends and sharing: your friend connections and requests, and the spots you share or receive.
- Weather: to get a forecast we send an approximate location (rounded to about 5 km). If you turn on great-weather alerts, we store that approximate location to check it daily.
- Notifications: your device's push token, app version and notification settings.
- Purchases: if you subscribe to JigSpot Pro, Google Play handles payment. We receive your subscription status (not your card details) through RevenueCat.
- Crash reports: if the app crashes, it sends a report with the error details, your device model, Android version, app version and a random installation ID. Crash reports don't include your name, email or location.
- Usage data (only if you agree): during setup the app asks whether you want to share usage data, and you can change your answer any time in Settings. If you agree, the app sends which screens and features you use and when — for example opening the map, starting Jig Mode, saving a spot (the kind of spot, not where it is), downloading a map region, or opening the Pro offer — along with your plan, app version, device model, Android version and whether you were offline. Usage data is linked to your account's random ID, never your name or email, and never includes your spots, coordinates, trip routes, notes or photos. If you don't agree, none is sent.
- Technical data: for sign-in security we record the IP address and device type of each login session, and use your approximate country to decide where the service is offered.
What stays on your phone
- Each trip's GPS route and its trip photos.
- The drift track, downloaded offline maps, and app settings.
- Spots and trips are stored on your phone first. Spots, and each finished trip's summary with its strikes and catches, are saved to your account when you're signed in and online.
How we use it
- To run the app: sync your spots and trip summaries, show friends' shared spots and live positions, and deliver the notifications you turned on.
- To provide Pro features to subscribers.
- To keep accounts secure, for example limiting repeated sign-in attempts.
- To find and fix crashes.
- If you agreed to share usage data, to understand which features anglers use and improve the app.
- To answer you when you contact us.
We don't use your data for advertising and we don't sell it.
Who we share it with
- Friends you choose — the spots you share and your live position while broadcasting.
- Cloudflare — hosts our servers, database (including your spots and trip summaries) and file storage.
- Google — Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers notifications, Firebase Crashlytics receives crash reports, Google Play processes payments, and Google Sign-In confirms your identity if you choose to continue with Google.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status.
- PostHog (servers in the United States) — receives usage data, only if you agreed to share it.
- MET Norway (Norwegian Meteorological Institute) — receives the approximate location of weather requests, from our servers, not your phone.
- Resend — sends password-reset emails to your address.
- Map providers — when the map loads satellite imagery (Esri), the provider receives the map area being viewed and your IP address, as with any website.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data, including your spots and trip summaries, until you delete your account. Live broadcast positions are removed when a broadcast ends or expires. After you delete your account, the data is removed right away and disappears from our database's automatic recovery backups within 30 days.
Turning usage data off stops the app sending it. To have usage data already collected removed, email jigspot@diom.dev.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile in the app, and delete individual spots from Logs.
- Deleting a trip in Logs removes it from your phone. Its saved summary stays in your account until you delete your account; to remove a single trip's summary sooner, emailjigspot@diom.dev.
- Turn location, notifications and live broadcast on or off in the app or your phone's settings.
- Turn usage data on or off in the app (Settings → Privacy → Share usage data).
- Delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account) or by email — seehow to delete your account.
- Ask for a copy of your data or a correction by emailingjigspot@diom.dev. You have these rights under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173).
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords are stored only as salted hashes, and your sign-in session is stored encrypted on your phone. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
JigSpot is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and for significant changes we'll let you know in the app.
